Mass incarceration in the United States can be traced back to the very beginnings of this country's hatred towards freed African Americans and slavery.  It has become a normal way of life for so many who now depend on this system to work, eat, pay bills and survive.  Black lives are used to justify this system's existence, but whites are not immune to the injustice either.
